The Nomadic Network is hosting another travel happy hour with Kelly, Megi, Ketti, and Kristen from our Boston Chapter! Let’s connect with new and old friends at The Revolution Hotel for a free cocktail per person, free snacks, a tour of a super fun alternative hotel with tons of cool art, and a budget travel talk from Nomadic Matt!
Mark your calendars and get ready to share travel stories, receive suggestions, and ask questions! We’ll be mingling in a private space at the hotel so just say you’re attending The Nomadic Network meetup when you arrive.
If you’re new to The Nomadic Network, we’re a chapter-based organization and our mission is to connect travelers to people and resources that get you traveling cheaper, better, longer, and more! At TNN, it makes us happy to introduce great people to great people. And let’s face it, travelers are some of the greatest people.
Bring a friend or attend solo. Everyone is welcome!
Meet Our Speaker: “Nomadic” Matt Kepnes
Our featured speaker is Nomadic Matt himself! Matt is the New York Times best-selling author of How to Travel the World on $50 a Day and Ten Years a Nomad, as well as the founder of TNN! He’s been blogging about budget travel for 15+ years and is eager to help everyone travel better, cheaper, and longer.
Growing up in Boston, Matt was never a big traveler. He didn’t take his first trip overseas until 2004. That trip changed his life and opened him up to the possibilities the world had to offer. A year later, he went to Thailand, where he met five backpackers who inspired him to quit his job and travel the world. In 2006, Matt left for a year-long backpacking trip — and have been “nomadic” ever since.
Learn About Our Venue: The Revolution Hotel
Located in Boston’s vibrant South End, walking distance to the Back Bay, and close to public transportation, The Revolution Hotel is redefining the hotel concept in Boston with smartly designed yet very affordable lodging aimed at cost-conscious travelers, families and small groups, from Revolution Loft Suites to Triples, Quads and Bath In-Room and Bath Down-The-Hall options. The hotel was given the Honor Award in the 2021 Hospitality Design Awards by the Boston Society for Architecture (BSA). The Revolution Hotel is owned by the Mount Vernon Company and operated by Olympia Hotel Management.
Renovated in 2018, the hotel features bold commissioned artwork that creates a de facto art gallery as well as a vibrant and energetic common space ideal for meetings, working and socializing. Individuals Collective was responsible for the three-story “Innovation Tower” wrapped around the lobby’s elevator column, which celebrates some of Boston’s greatest inventions, incorporating objects such as the typewriter and Bose headphones as well as telephones, Converse sneakers, basketballs and volleyballs. A dramatic 65-foot mural interpreting vignettes from Boston history was done freehand by California artist Tristan Eaton.
The hotel hosts Kohi Coffee Co., a walk-up coffee shop that originated in Provincetown, MA, as well as Cósmica, a Mexican restaurant that serves dinner and weekend brunch. The hotel also has a community co-working space playfully named Conspire. The Revolution offers a 24-hour fitness center and free Wi-Fi throughout the hotel. Dogs are welcome for a $25 fee per stay.
