Traveling can be much different experience when you look physically different from the local population. It can come with a whole new set of challenges and problems to solve.
Roobens Fils is no stranger to being a Black person in a foreign country as a travel blogger and author from France who has traveled extensively throughout the world. He has even written a book on of his experiences of being Black and abroad.
But what is it really like to travel independently as a Black person?
Come to this session to hear Roobens share about things Black travelers have to think about and go through on the road, including but not limited to:
- the fear of racism
- taking longer going through immigration
- locals asking to get a picture with us just because of our skin color
- people thinking we're all rappers
- comparisons with black celebrities
- Black people acknowledging each other in passing
- ...and a few experiences regarding traveling as a Black woman and traveling as an African citizen
Join us to find out what it's really like to travel the world independently as a Black person.
