Lisa’s Story

Hi everyone!

I’m Lisa, and I’m absolutely thrilled to announce that I am the new owner of The Nomadic Network!

I’ve been a follower of Nomadic Matt for years, and back in 2019, when TNN first launched, I jumped at the chance to lead The Nomadic Network’s Portland, Oregon Chapter. Aside from hosting our monthly meetups and getting to know all sorts of travelers in my community, I volunteered for everything that popped up. I attended probably a hundred virtual events, hosted a few, repped TNN at travel conferences, and even presented about my role as an overseas volunteer scrub technician.

My participation in TNN was transformative. I went from being a travel-loving designer and realtor to… a designer and realtor with a true obsession with travel!

Don’t get me wrong, I’ve always adored travel. It has always been close to my heart – and I know precisely when the travel bug first bit me. It was while watching a movie on HBO at age 15. To this day, I remember watching those closing credits roll as I frantically scanned, looking for the filming location. I needed to know exactly where this stunningly beautiful destination existed. Finally, there it was: Santorini, Greece. I must go!!

As an adult, I have always jumped at any chance to travel domestically and internationally (as much as my budget would allow, that is). This passion has since taken me to various corners of the world, including Portugal, Japan, France, Jordan, Switzerland, the Dominican Republic, Italy, Palau, Costa Rica, Mexico, and of course, beautiful Greece.

Whether for leisure or volunteering on medical missions as a scrub tech, all of my travels have one thing in common: they are always driven by a love for meeting people, exploring new cultures, and leaving a positive impact. And for me, the fun starts long before the trip takes place – I have always loved researching destinations, uncovering local tips and deals, and truly making the most of every travel experience, while also avoiding those boring and typical tourist traps.

Over the years, people around me took notice of this and would come to me with questions about my various travel hacks or recommendations for places to go. So I started a blog to catalog my travels and to help others plan their trips. The insight I provided ranged significantly, from international multi-week travel tips and hacks for traveling inexpensively, to recommendations for local day hikes and campsites around the PNW, an area where I have led many women’s hiking and snowshoe tours. With my new affiliation with The Nomadic Network, suddenly my IG feed was also filled with all the new travel friends I was making through TNN.

I know I am not alone when I say this: my experience being affiliated with TNN has been incredibly impactful! In fact, after attending one particular TNN meetup, I learned about a tour company that I’d never heard of before and loved their brand. And with them, I ended up winning a free trip to Jordan!

I will never forget one quiet moment near the end of the tour. All of us silent, lost in thought, as we rode camels in the Wadi Rum desert. I couldn’t believe this was real, and I was struck once again by the incredible magic that happens when we explore. When we step out of the familiar and travel somewhere new. Not only had I explored a country and culture that was wildly different than my own, but I’d also made six new like-minded friends, and together we shared these priceless memories that would last a lifetime.

Soon after, that same company hired me to lead a 9-day tour for them in Greece. For me, that was truly a lifelong dream come to life. And that’s when I realized I had made it over the hump.

My heart was now fully in the travel world.

All I had ever wanted to do was share with others the beauty around the world, and make sure they knew that traveling was truly more accessible than they thought.

When I realized that The Nomadic Network wasn’t going to be unpaused, I knew it was waiting for me. Surely, I could show it the kind of love it showed me over the last 5 years.

The team agreed that I was an ideal candidate to carry the vision forward.

So, I am!

And now I’m leading TNN with the same passion and vision that sparked my journey. My own experiences have shown me how transformative travel and community can be. I believe that travel is about building meaningful connections with people and cultures, and bringing the world closer together.

As the new owner of TNN, I’m dedicated to celebrating the beauty of our world, connecting travelers and communities across the globe, and nurturing a deep love for exploration.

How will I do this, you ask?

TOURS!

Not just any tours though. Tours to incredible destinations that take you off the beaten path, exploring the real culture that exists behind those annoying tourist traps. We asked you, and you told us in no uncertain terms what you want in a tour:

  • you want to travel in small groups, and to meet like-minded travelers along the way
  • you want real hands-on educational experiences
  • you want to learn about the real culture, not just visit the same old places that everyone else goes
  • you love travel that’s budget-conscious, because you want your hard-earned travel money to go as far as it can!
  • you also don’t want to skimp on budget so much that you forgo quality (i.e. hostels are great for the pocketbook, but we also want – and deserve – a good night’s sleep)

I hear you loud and clear, and you’ve come to the right place. Why? Because I, and the whole TNN team, travel the exact same way.

With this in mind, we have put together the most incredible 2025 TNN Tour Calendar! We’ve got varying trip lengths, destinations, and price points. There’s literally something for everybody!

COMMUNITY!

So many of us budget-conscious travel enthusiasts are cut from the same cloth, aren’t we?

We love a great adventure! We are also likely enthusiastic about booking flights with points, finding the best street food, locating that lesser-known waterfall, or giving/getting tips about awesome house-sitting destinations. We’re very often solo travelers who book our trips independently. We are also sometimes the only “traveler” in our sphere at home. And many of us find that can get lonely.

In 2019, TNN saw a great need, and set out to build a travel community. The aim was to bring travelers together – to create a worldwide network of like-minded travel enthusiasts. We started by creating chapters that hosted meetups in different cities each month (shout out for the Portland Chapter, woot woot!). When the pandemic struck in 2020, we moved that community online through virtual events aimed at helping travelers – and those who dreamed of one day traveling – satiate their travel bug from anywhere in the world.

Over three years, TNN hosted 275 virtual events on various travel topics – taught by both experts and people who had “been there and done that” and wanted to share their knowledge with the greater community. It was incredible! TNN has since received countless requests to restart our online events from community members, chapter leaders, speakers, and travelers who went on our tours.

And I am so excited to announce that our beloved TNN Community is back!

Each month we will be hosting an online meetup featuring various travel experts, discussions on travel topics, travel books, and more. We have a full calendar of events that are free to attend. We can’t wait to see you at a meetup soon.

You guys, I’m truly thrilled about the future and can’t wait to share this journey with all of you!

My team and I are dedicated to consistently delivering to you outstanding quality experiences, while always keeping budget in mind to ensure you receive the best value.  Our community meetups bring us together, fostering connections and friendships, while our group tours are crafted to provide truly enriching and authentic travel experiences.

Join us as we explore the world and build lasting memories together, and discover what it truly means to travel!

Happy adventuring,

Lisa Field
