      Forum Description

Posted: 2/18/2022 | February 18th, 2022 Travel is a form of education. Every travel excursion could add a layer of understanding to your knowledge of people, food, culture, and history. It's how you can learn the untold and nuanced histories not often featured in schools. Especially the histories of groups not often featured in school textbooks or literature. Franny the Traveler is on a mission to educate and inspire others to travel intentionally and in a way that helps showcase underrepresented groups - specifically Black people. In this talk, Franny will share:
      • How traveling with a Black frame of mind has enhanced her trips
      • Strategies for how to intentionally plan trips & travels in a way that supports minority-owned businesses
      • How to seek out experiences that feature the history of Black people in the area
      • Her favorite Black-owned travel businesses worth using
      • Museums worth visiting to learn more about Black history
      • Apps you should utilize while traveling
There are so many ways you can support Black business owners while on the road, and Franny has the knowledge to share! From utilizing apps such as Eat More Okra, or following the African American Heritage Trail to learn through audio books, to simply reviewing Black businesses on Yelp or Google, there are so many ways to support people of color by traveling with intention. This talk during Black history month is one you won't want to miss. WATCH THIS PRESENTATION ABOUT THE SPEAKER Franny the Traveler is an Assistant Principal by day and travel blogger by night. She specializes in taking micro-cations and amplifying underrepresented voices in the travel industry. She has traveled to over 25 countries and 70% of the United States. Along the way, she challenges herself to learn untold parts of Black history that she can then bring back to the students in her classrooms to share with them to enhance her anti-racism work.
