      Forum Description

couple moves to ghana africa Have you ever wanted to move overseas? How about Africa? Would you like to move to Ghana? Was Ghana on your radar at all? Perhaps, it was — if you happen to be a part of the African Diaspora! You see, in 1619, the slave trade began and many Africans were forced to leave their home continent, culture, food, families, and land. Then 400 years later, in 2019, the president of Ghana — Nana Akufo-Addo — invited any and all Africans from the Diaspora to "return home" and assured them they'd all be welcomed in Ghana...no matter where their ancestors were from. That year, an unprecedented number of Africans from the Diaspora (over 788,000) visited Ghana! They were met with tons of cultural activities, festivals that celebrated the culture of Ghana and the wider African region. So many people had the chance to visit the continent of their ancestors for the first time. And when they got there realized ...it's a pretty awesome place to live! If moving overseas is something that you've considered, it might be time to add Ghana to your list. In this session, Adrienne will be discussing:
      • Why living in Ghana is an attractive choice for many
      • President Akofu-Addo's invitation to Diasporians to return to Ghana
      • What living in Ghana would take logistically
      • How to prepare psychologically for the move to Ghana
      • How to find info for your move to Ghana (real estate, business opportunities, cultural norms, and Ghanaian cuisine)
ABOUT THE SPEAKER Adrienne “Esi” Cooke is a clinical social worker and former Travel Consultant who worked for Midway Airlines, made reservations for American Express business travelers, sold cruises, and booked tours to Eastern Europe. During her time working in the travel industry, she developed a love for Africa. In 1994, she stepped foot in Ghana for the first time and has been visiting on a regular basis ever since. She currently runs the website Returnees Sankofa, where she shares stories of people returning to the motherland of Africa (specifically Ghana), through videos of Ghanaian activities, local organizations, and personal interviews. Adrienne is in the midst of moving from the US to Ghana and is so happy to help others in the process. Join us to hear Adrienne share her experiences and opinions on repatriating to Ghana.
