TNN: May Book Club: “Marco Polo Didn’t Go There” by Rolf Potts

Hey everyone,
Rolf Potts is one of the most famous modern travel writers out there. He burst onto the scene with his book Vagabonding, a must-read for first-time travelers. He’s the godfather of modern backpacking.
His book was a huge inspiration to me when I started planning my trip – and I know it has been to many of you.
But Rolf is a prolific storyteller and his philosophy on travel is no better seen in his book “Marco Polo Didn’t Go There,” which is a great collection of travel stories.
That’s why it was this month’s book club selection!
Rolf is a great guy who is very kind and knowledgeable. We were lucky to have him as the closing keynote speaker at our first TravelCon event and we’re super excited to have him talk about his book at our May book club event!

ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Rolf Potts has reported from more than sixty countries for the likes of National Geographic Traveler, The New Yorker, Slate.com, Outside, the New York Times Magazine, The Believer, The Guardian (U.K.), Sports Illustrated, National Public Radio, and the Travel Channel. His adventures have taken him across six continents, and include piloting a fishing boat 900 miles down the Laotian Mekong, hitchhiking across Eastern Europe, traversing Israel on foot, bicycling across Burma, driving a Land Rover across South America, and traveling around the world for six weeks with no luggage or bags of any kind.
Potts is perhaps best known for promoting the ethic of independent travel, and his book on the subject, “Vagabonding: An Uncommon Guide to the Art of Long-Term World Travel,” has been through thirty-two printings and translated into several foreign languages.
He has lectured at venues around the world, including New York University, the University of Lugano, the University of Melbourne, [email protected], and the World Affairs Council. He has taught semester-long nonfiction writing courses at Penn and Yale.
